چکیده

Presented in the paper is an efficient pair-wise offset algorithm for closed 2D point-sequence curves (PS-curve). A key feature of the proposed algorithm is that all local invalid loops are removed from the input PS-curve before constructing a raw offset-curve, by invoking a pair-wise interference-detection (PWID) test. In the PWID test, each pair of elementary offset segments is tested for interference and then interfering segments are successively removed. The proposed algorithm has been implemented and tested with various PS-curves. Empirical tests show that the proposed PS-curve offsetting method is very fast and robust with a near O(n) time-complexity, where n is the number of points in a PS-curve. q 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. Influence of tool path strategy on the cycle time of high-speed milling

This work at ®rst look discusses the in¯uence of the tool path strategy on the cycle time of high-speed milling operations. Experiments and predictions were focused on pocketing operations with a zigzag tool path, quantifying the signi®cant discrepancy between the programmed feed rate and the actual average feed rate. A mechanistic approach for cycle time evaluation is proposed. The mechanistic...

MMCs and PPCs as constructs of curvature regions for form feature determination

Shape feature information about a part is required to analyze the part for downstream issues such as manufacturability and assemblability. One method of obtaining the feature information is feature recognition from the geometric model. The current approach called Curvature Region (CR) approach for feature determination from solid models categorizes features into two primitive shape classes: pro...

Interpolation schemes for rigid body motions

This paper investigates methods for computing a smooth motion that interpolates a given set of positions and orientations. The position and orientation of a rigid body can be described with an element of the group of spatial rigid body displacements, SE(3). To nd a smooth motion that interpolates a given set of positions and orientations is therefore the same as nding an interpolating curve bet...

We are dealing with the problem of space layout planning here. We present an architectural conceptual CAD approach. Starting with design specifications in terms of constraints over spaces, a specific enumeration heuristics leads to a complete set of consistent conceptual design solutions named topological solutions. These topological solutions which do not presume any precise definitive dimensi...

Meshfree simulation of deforming domains

Spatial discretization of the domain and/or boundary conditions prevents application of many numerical techniques to physical problems with time-varying geometry and boundary conditions. By contrast, the R-functions method (RFM) for solving boundary and initial value problems discretizes not the domain but the underlying functional space, while the prescribed boundary conditions are satisfied e...
